Larry Jackson Jr.
Fire Chief
Fire Chief
Chief Jackson began his fire service career in 1998 as a junior firefighter and has spent more than two decades serving in a variety of operational and leadership roles. In 2002, he began a long-term tenure with the New Prospect Fire District, where he served as a firefighter, engineer, safety officer, shift lieutenant, shift captain, and later Battalion Chief of Operations before being appointed Fire Chief of the Gowensville Fire District.
Trained by seasoned veterans of the fire service, Chief Jackson’s leadership philosophy was shaped by a strong emphasis on servant leadership, accountability, and adaptability. He believes leaders should never ask others to do what they are unwilling to do themselves and places a strong focus on realistic training, disciplined operations, and strong working relationships with surrounding agencies that extend well beyond formal mutual aid agreements.
Raised in a farming family, Chief Jackson maintains deep ties to the agricultural community. While not a lifelong resident of Gowensville, he has long-standing personal and professional affiliations in the area that keep him grounded and connected to the community. In addition to the fire service, he has served as a paramedic and a reserve police officer, providing a broad perspective on public safety.
Outside of his official duties, Chief Jackson enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, working on antique tractors and vehicles, and occasionally unwinding with a game of Call of Duty.
